SQUAREHEAD: POP-OUT Characters bring Swiss identity to life
For the Squarehead brand, the STI Group developed the creative concept of three-dimensional pop-out characters to production-ready specifications. The cardboard figures are sold completely flat-packed and can be assembled into detailed characters without the need for scissors, glue or any other tools. The first collection showcases Switzerland through distinctive characters rather than landmarks, combining design, interaction and resource conservation in an innovative souvenir concept. The solution is complemented by a cardboard sleeve for distribution and a cardboard counter display for an eye-catching presentation at the point of sale.

Challenge
Squarehead set out to reinterpret the classic Swiss souvenir and create a modern alternative to established souvenirs. Rather than tourist attractions, the focus is on figures with which people have an emotional connection to Switzerland. The first collection features Franz-Toni, the cheesemaker, symbolising Swiss craftsmanship and cheese culture; Bella, the cow, representing the Alps; and Bruno, the Bernese Mountain Dog, as an ambassador for authenticity and a love of nature. The challenge was to bring these characters to life as a sustainable, flat souvenir offering a unique experience.
Solution
The STI Group developed Squarehead’s creative design concept into a production-ready concept and turned it into a marketable cardboard product. The POP-OUT Characters were realised as precision die-cut designs that fit completely flat inside a cardboard envelope and can be assembled into sturdy three-dimensional figures without the need for scissors, glue or any additional tools. In addition, the STI Group developed a cardboard counter display for presenting several designs at the point of sale. Thus, a design concept was transformed into an innovative souvenir product that combines design, functionality and resource efficiency.
