Pharmaceutical packaging with modular inserts

CHROMSYSTEMS: Modular pharmaceutical packaging for diagnostic products

The STI Group developed a modular packaging solution made from laminated corrugated board for diagnostic products for Chromsystems. The standardised packaging system reduces the number of variants from 11 to 5 sizes. Flexibly combinable inserts simplify filling, reduce storage complexity and support a more efficient packing process. The recyclable, single-material solution combines technical functionality with a clear material logic.

Challenge

Chromsystems required harmonised packaging for its diagnostic products that would reliably accommodate different configurations and significantly reduce packaging complexity. The existing range of packaging comprised 11 formats and needed to be converted into a more streamlined, modular system under time pressure. At the same time, handling, storage and packaging processes needed to be simplified.

Solution

With on-site support at the customer’s premises, the STI Group developed a modular packaging concept made from laminated corrugated board. At the heart of the solution is a flexible inlay concept featuring combinable inserts for different product configurations. As a result, the packaging range was reduced from 11 formats to 5 sizes. The solution is designed as a recyclable monomaterial.

Benefits

  • Fewer variants: reduction from 11 formats to 5 sizes.
  • Reduced warehouse complexity: The modular system simplifies stock management and planning.
  • Simpler packing process: Combinable inserts support different configurations.
  • Rapid validation: On-site development enabled quick coordination under time pressure.
